Production Log w/11

This week me and my partner have created a script for the next part of planning our BSR opening sequence which involved adding the camera movement, detailed description of what is happening in the shot, the timing ect...

The issues this week with planning was that we were less confident with the timings of each shot and if it would be long or short enough for the 2 minute limit so this made us think a lot. Another issue was with the flow of our opening sequence, we had to make sure that each description made sense with the second description otherwise our whole script would not have a sense of continuity.

To fix these issues we looked at our treatment to help us which then allowed us to see our whole film narrative so we then broke each section up to fit our script. We also looked at the brief to see what was required.

Summary
Over all the Majority of people I asked had a slight idea of what British Social Realism was as they responded saying gangs, violence and reality comes to mind so there for it shows that quite a few people know a bit about BSR genre, the other half of the 10 people I asked were unsure about the genre and needed me to do some explaining and examples.

The people I asked for my primary research answered back saying Adulthood,This is England, Fish tank ect when it came to saying which BSR films they have watched, this is helpful because these are the BSR films I have watched myself giving me an idea of what my audience might be expecting from my BSR film. I asked the public which types of themes and narratives they might want to see in a BSR film and they responded saying murders, teens involved in fights and drug deals so therefor these are the popular film themes and narratives.

The people I questioned thought my narrative was effectual because religion is a strong topic and so is going against families and parents who usually play a big role in a persons life. My narrative includes disobeying parents which would be the theme of rebellion which most people thought was different and haven't heard of before.

When I asked people if anything like our narrative effected them or if they have heard about it they answered saying that this has occured with them with relatives in the family so therefor it goes to show that some people have heard about these types of issues with families and religion making it quite common. Other people i questioned said that these types of problems have happend to their friends and they know about people facing them.

Mckee's Film Narrative

Exposition protagonist
The protagonist in Fake ID is a young girl named Ayesha. Ayesha is living two different lives one of which where she is a Religious young Muslim girl and the other a Westernized prostitute. Our main characters ethnic background is Asian (Pakistani) and this will be denoted through the appearance of Ayesha and her family members. The Asian background will also be connoted through the name 'Ayesha' because the name is very common for a typical Asian girl to have.
In our narrative we have the fact that Ayesha has lost her job in retail due to the poor attendance, this has a big impact in her life as her family are in a negative position, suffering from poverty leads Ayesha to become desperate for money and a better life. This desperation takes the best of Ayesha which soon drives her into prostitution, having to lie to her parents every day to go out and earn money this way.
Ayesha will be dressed in respectful clothing when she is within the home eg:head scarf, oversized t-shirts and jeans because she is showing that she is extremely religious.
Ayesha will also be dressed in tigh t-shirts and jeans when we show her westernized side.

Agents of change
Poverty within the family is the disruption of normality as it is the reason for Ayesha going against her religion and parents to earn money through prostitution. The family is suffering from poverty as Ayesha's fathers corner shop goes 'out of business' which leads them into debt. The disruption ruins a young teens life so it is a very strong turning point in the narrative. Poverty is a key disruption point because it wrecks the relationship between her and the family because they become depressed, low and miserable being blinded by her daughters lies and actions.
As we do not have an antagonist in human form we decided to include the antagonist to be one of the key theme of poverty and prostitution.

Conflict complication
Ayesha tries many attempts to find a suitable job after loosing her job in retail to provide for the family and keep a roof over their heads, but as she fails to do so she turns to the dark, dangerous and desperate road trying to earn money as soon as possible through prostitution. However Ayesha is blinded by her parents state in poverty that she neglects her parents upbringing, the rules and regulations and does what she believes is seemingly right.

Elaboration
Ayesha and her very religious family (two children and parents) face serious debt problems, this changes all of their lives to an extremely low point, as they severely suffer from poverty. Considering that Ayesha lost her job as a retail manager recently, in desperate terms she gets easily influenced into prostitution by a hooker she met on the bus. She ends up going to this secret prostitute house were she can earn 'easy' money. After experiencing it for couple days this Soon becomes a perminant job for her, she socialises and mixes with different people that are troubled and upto no good which manage to change her as a person. As Ayesha's entire family are extremely strict religious muslims, infront of them she portrayes herself to be this;'innocent, honest, religious kind loving girl' that would never disobey her parents as she reminds them almost everyday how much she's focusing on carrying out a 'sucessful business' which would make her parents proud. There is no way that she lets them find out she is a prostitute, everything is done secretly. The problem is this doesnt stay a secret for long at all, her true colours come out as she realises she isnt this 'religious' young women her parents (Nina and riad) force her to be. Instantly this prostitute job has an effect on her lifestyle and the person she is as she turns to drugs, changes the way she dresses, openly smokes and drinks in public. Her parents become aware that she has developed into a terrible person, but are still not fully aware of the full situation, the fact that she is a prostitue. It became regular that Ayesha and her parents would argue at the fact that she needs to fix up and go back to the religious, good person that she was, but she did not seem to care.
Themes of; poverty (The family is suffering from money problems), Religion (A very religious family), Drugs (Ayesha turns to drugs), sexuality (Ayesha becomes a prostitute), isolation and exclusion (Ayesha is living a seperate life alone, that her family are not aware of).

Climax & Resolution

It came to a bad point were both parents had no choice but to confront Ayesha and give her a serious warning. This confrontation led to a deep argument, Out of anger Ayesha reveals all; 'GUESS WHAT MUM AND DAD I DONT NEED ANY OF YOU'SE! YOUR BOTH SHIT PARENTS ANYWAY, I BET YOU HAD NO IDEA MY NEW JOB WAS ANYTHING GOT TO DO WITH PROSTITUTION' At this moment both of the parents had a sickening feeling in their stomach, out of disgust and hatred towards Ayesha they told her to leave the house with all her belongings and made it very clear to her that she is; 'Completely disowned from today onwards'.

Coda-
Couple months later Ayesha falls in love with an elderly man ( named Rob) that she met through prostitution. She's in a relationship with him were she is supposedely happy and has freedom as he provides her with a home and reasonable amount of food.
The ending will show Ayesha living in a better condition with her boyfriend although its still a dull and boring life, which again emphasizes the reality.

Production log w/9

In this weeks lesson I have understood and learnt about narratives, I was able to learn about a linear, non-linear, omniscient and restricted narrative. A linear narrative is a basic narrative which includes a starting, middle and a ending in an order. A non-linear narrative is the opposite as the narrative does not follow the original orders and often involves flashbacks or the future or the past. A omniscient narrative allows us to see the narrative from more than one persons point of view and this is shown in films in like adulthood and kidulthood. Restricted narrative is only one persons view throughout the whole narrative for example Mia in Fishtank.

Learning about the different types of narrative has helped for my initial idea, i now known that my narrative is a restricted narrative because the main character is Ayesha and it is based on her life and the problems she faces.
